Meant To Be Broken Our system of government is dependent upon a reckless society. If no one is breaking laws, then the system isn't making any money, and thus cannot exist. Does the government really want a civil society? Of course not. Such a thing would derail their power. More laws, less freedom. The more they govern your behavior, the more money they can make off you. All too often, rules are demonstrations of power rather than common sense and concern for the well being of mankind. For instance, how many times have you been pulled over by a cop and they've actually told you why you're getting a speeding ticket? Saying that you're going too fast is far from an explanation, as if there is any harm in "going too fast" on a road system that was designed for high speed travel. If no one else is on the road and the weather is favorable, is there really a danger in exceeding the speed limit by ten miles per hour? And if that danger is only to yourself, is that not your choice? Who really owns your life? Apparently not you. The next time you get a ticket in a school zone (or as they are often called "Speed Traps", which is exactly what it is), see if they tell you that your excessive speed is a safety hazard to children. Very unlikely. Reason you won't hear that--they don't see it as that. It's not about safety, it's about the issuance of tickets--the real role of cops. And how about fines doubling in construction areas? Who gets that extra money? You would think fines double so that injured or killed construction workers, or their families, would be compensated. No. It goes to taxes. If you think cops are there to serve you, think again. The only thing a cop intends to serve you is a ticket or a swift kick to the ass. October 31, 2002 Chewing Gum in School Have you ever wondered why most public schools forbid students from chewing gum? If you ask why, the school will most likely tell you that it's because students put their gum under the desks. But why do students do that? Because you aren't allowed to chew gum in school--you can't spit it out in the trash or you'll get busted, so you stick it under your desk. Rules like this are set up by stupid people who have the sense of a dog chasing its own tail. Let people be responsible, and they will act responsibly. October 24, 2002 |
